On August 12, 2010 we, the Savo Auctioneers, offered more than 250 lots of vintage trains, toys, and comic books — over 90% of which was consigned from one estate. Bidding was intense as collectors from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and several other states competed to claim their share of pristine Lionel and American Flyer trains, Fawcett Publication sports comics, Tootsietoys, and other fine playthings from the past. Leading the pack, however, were a large assortment of 1960s Lesney Matchbox cars in their original boxes and a selection of classic 1950s/1960s promotional automobiles models.

The picture above shows just a fraction of the 1960s Lesney Matchbox cars that we offered on August 12. The grouping numbered over 150 pieces. High bidders were given their choice of 20 cars at a time. Winning bids ranged from $20 each to as much as $85 each. When the final Matchbox was sold, $3,427.50 had been realized for the entire collection.
Pictured below are 21 vintage 1950s/1960s promotional automobile models. (Click on the pictures to enlarge them.) These combination toy/advertising collectibles emulate classic cars such as the 1966 Riviera, the 1957 Roadmaster Convertible, the 1966 GTO, and other examples of American automobile majesty. Seven of these models had even retained their original boxes.
These models were offered individually, ranging in price from as little as $60 each to as much as $230 each. In total, $2,340 was achieved for this collection.
We are very proud to have been able to offer such a fine selection of toys to an enthusiastic and courteous group of collectors. A sincere thanks to the consignor and to all the bidders who helped make this auction a rousing success.
